Can We Discuss How Cute This Is?

Check out Dirty Blonde for more dunkable-ness. (As in, this is so cute, I could dunk him in my coffee.)

Spreading the Good Word

Story of my New York life.
Kate Westervelt Photography

Pet peeve of the day: When people look down the subway tracks into the dark abyss of the tunnel and say “Where is it?!?!??” As if the harder they stare, the quicker the train will arrive. And it seems as if the train doesn’t arrive in the next three seconds, they will drop dead right where they stand—which is waaaaay too close to the tracks anyways and thus they’ll fall in. Then what kind of rush will they be in?

I personally stand as far back as possible because you never know. One drunken fool loses his footing and your butt is toast. Burnt. Freaking. Toast.

Don’t even get me started on pigeons. Yes pigeons! Pigeons in New York are a different breed. In fact, I think New York pigeons have a chip on their shoulder. (Do pigeons have shoulders?) Pigeons here are entitled. I can’t walk down the street without a pigeon nearly flying into my face. As if they have no fear. Don’t they get it? I’m a human. I could do terrible things to them. But no, there I am sitting on a bench and the next thing I know there’s a pigeon sitting next to me, all bug-eyed and dirty. Or I’ll be strolling down the street and there they are, pecking at the concrete like idiots. I frequently catch myself talking to the pigeons. Before you brand me as a crazy pigeon lady, let’s be clear. I’m not insane, I just like to let them know that there are better places to live the pigeon life. I tell them about trees and grass and about far off lands that are more conducive to the bird lifestyle than the Concrete Jungle. I’m just spreading the good word.

Happy Sunday.

Hello...Is This Thing On?

Back. Finally. Hope I didn't leave you waiting too long.

Marshmallow guns. Yeah, be jealous.

I have a Barbie Band-Aid on my knee. If that doesn’t sum up my whole weekend I don’t know what will. Maybe my fluorescent purple toenail polish? The fruit loop stuck in my hair? The fact that I’m surviving on dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets and Capri Suns?

You guessed it, babysitting—all weekend. Not one but three, count ‘em, THREE lovely, wild, energetic children. If I could have a grown-up conversation, maybe a glass of wine, or something with a rating over PG, I’d die a happy lady right about now.

Speaking of wine, I’d like to propose a toast to parents. Here’s to you--you minivan driving, Mac & Cheese cooking, boo-boo kissing, saints. I admire you with every ounce of my over-tired existence.

Me and the girls

And to my parents, who some how managed to pursue their masters degrees full-time while working full-time AND having three, very active, kids on top of it all. How on Earth you managed to survive, I’ll never know.

In less tired news, I’m currently on my way back to the Big Apple. Over a week has passed since the debacle that blew in from San Diego. Eeeeeeheemmm, I’m not going to mention any names, (Josh, Joe, Sean, Brian and I think there was one more?!??)….eeehhheeeeem….. Nope, not gonna name drop one bit.

The good news is that it only takes an entire week to recover from four nights of no sleep. Clearly a good trade-off (sarcasm in case you missed it.) Regardless of how much sleep I lost, it was an awesome weekend. One I wont soon forget.

Happy Monday ya’ll. Better days are coming. They’re called Saturday and Sunday.
